I walked out smiling thinking I destroyed the exam and would have my number today. I had a chat with the others taking the exam and it just reassured me that I passed. On the way home I realised I had lost 14 points (if you lose 20 points then it is game over).

I thought I passed the theory but my answers may not have matched what Cisco was looking for (score is either 0% or 100%). I made a few silly mistakes in the exam. I got my result at 4am in the morning as it was FAIL. Bugger! I knew it was close but I really thought I made it. My real surprise was the theory, open ended questions. I am still certain I got all 4 questions right, even after all my research since the exam. Well, I’m not sure what my plan is now as there are no more dates until Christmas!!!

After some googleing, I soon found there is little info on how to use an interface range macro.

You need to define the interface range:
Switch_3550(config)#define interface-range CCIE fa 0/17 – 18

Then you can use it:
Switch_3550(config)#int range macro CCIE

I think the syntax to use it is a little weird; you might as well type in the full command as it is the same length in most cases.

I’m on Narbiks boot camp and I can honestly say this has boosted my confidence and increased my moral… I’d even go as far as saying it is better than a Caribbean cruise!

Oh no. I have been studying all weekend again and I feel sick. The more I study the more I feel I don’t know. I think I can do the config part as I’m getting high scores with the labs but I’m just worried sick about the 4 open ended questions. Even if I know the answer I sometimes express it wrong!. And cisco can ask about anything from RFC numbers to bit paterns in packets!. I feel sick of it to be honest as I feel it doesn’t matter how hard I try I could get blasted. Well I’m going on a boot camp next week, I hope that will motivate me!. The other thing I don’t like is that MPLS is being introduced which means going back to square one. I;ll try 1 attempt then call it a day(3 years).

I’ve cracked Cat QoS with the help of my mentor Arun, CCIEx2 ….Thank you!!!

Step 1. Enable mls qos globally

6509-Access(config)# mls qos

Step 2. Select a port to configure.

6509-Access(config)#interface fastethernet 5/1

Step 3. Configure the port as a Layer 2 port in the access mode.

6509-Access(config-if)#switchport mode access

Step 4. Define the voice VLAN.

6509-Access(config-if)#switchport voice vlan 111

Step 5. Define the data VLAN.

6509-Access(config-if)#switchport access vlan 11

Step 7. Accept the incoming Layer 2 CoS. This lets the switch accept the phone marking of voice traffic at CoS = 5 and voice control traffic at CoS = 3 and enables input scheduling.

6509-Access(config-if)#mls qos trust cos

Step 8. Instruct the IP phone to rewrite the PC traffic to CoS = 0.

6509-Access(config-if)#mls qos trust extend cos 0

to change the qos of a pc hanging off a phone use: switchport priority extend cos

This exmple shows how to set the phone that is attached to the switch port in trust mode:

To remark DSCP markings:

mls qos map dscp-mutation dscp-mutation-name in-dscp to out-dscp

Switch(config)# mls qos map dscp-mutation gi0/2-mutation 10 11 12 13 to 30
Switch(config)# interface gigabitethernet0/2
Switch(config-if)# mls qos trust dscp
Switch(config-if)# mls qos dscp-mutation gi0/2-mutation

mls qos map cos-dscp 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45

mls qos map ip-prec-dscp 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45

I hope this helps

In view of the current economic enviroment and banking fraud (nothing new), I have moved my cash to gold deposits. I used bullionvault to do this and just want to share the knowledge with you. You can do this via the following link:

I hope  this helps.

One of the biggest problems candidates have is that they run out of time and this is the problem I am facing. A few people have mentioned repeating the same lab again and again. One of my colleagues here said he was able to do a full lab in 30 minutes….. wow … now that is super fast.  e.g. you would get a set of labs (lets say 1,7,8,9,10, 11 & 13) and repeat time several times. Having said that, others believe it is best to get as many different flavour of labs and then just do them once. I’m still thinking of my best approach and will decide which is the best one for me later this week.
